Episode 4:
To my lovely Urban Fantasy peeps! It’s time for another episode of my World Building and Lore Series. Here is where I’ll post several episodes about all the interesting things that make my urban fantasy one amazing story. Let’s continue! So today I’ll be talking about HIDDEN MYSTERY… what my world’s myths and legends say about the past in the Immortal Universe! Real myth, real inspiration. What made me write a story steeped in ancient legends of old that still rule the world my characters live in today? Read on and find out!

Setting the Stage for a World of Legend
In an Urban Fantasy setting, it’s important to remember that while the world we have created is often within a world. It is like our own urban contemporary world, with a world layered beneath it or within that very world. Sometimes that world is a clandestine, sometime elements bleed through. Either way our world is forever changed, built into something new with the creation of an existence never seen before.
And when it comes to legends and myths in my beautiful world, they too have a way of being folded into the past of that new urban fantasy world. I spent a lot of (fun) time looking into legends and myths of our own world. This helped mold and shape my mythos in the Immortal Universe. Many legends inspired me, and I am excited to share them with you today!

Urban Myths and Legends Revealed
Legends do something to us. They capture us, enthrall us, and make us want to know more. The legends in my Immortal Universe are no different. My inspiration for the Immortal Series came mainly from the apocryphal texts of biblical lore. These texts, far from the main cannon of biblical stories fascinated me. They include themes of creation, covenants, redemption, and divine revelation, all things seen in my books. This influence directly and purely relates to the creatures I create in my universe, known as “Lorns,” descendants from the Fallen Angels.
As a result, I make the story my own. According to legend in the Immortal Universe legend, the Lorns were created after a divine great flood of the world (much like our own per biblical mythos). The Nephilim (children of the Fallen and mortals) were cast into oblivion. However, while their bodies might have been destroyed in the tempest, their divine spirits remained, disembodied and in need of hosts. Those first hosts were the first of the Lorn Race. Therefore, they birthed all Lorns who came there after. Yet, the Firsts disappeared from the face of the earth not long after their arrival, soon becoming a mystery and even questioned if they still existed. This mystery is revealed in the books.

How it all Translates Today
Today, we see Lorns existing by bloodline and “rebirth,” a method of being turned immortal by another Lorn. This marks the beginning of our story where we meet Ethan, a mortal turned Immortal against his will–a Lorn cursed to a life forever not his own, with a 1,000 year old power within him yearning to break free. This age-old legend is an integral part of my series.
Also, we also see witches, which I pull from Wicca and elements of the modern-day witch. Their powers derive from their bloodline and are inherited gifts. Legends here say the original witches, mystics of old were the first to walk the earth, magic bestowed upon them from beyond, an origin also later revealed in the books.
It’s safe to say there is much to see and learn in the histories of the Immortal Series. That being said, I invite you to see what wonders await you in this grand tale of sacrifice, family, unity, love, loss, and true mysteries unearthed. What do you do when forever comes for you even if you didn’t ask for it? Read the Immortal Series to learn how my beloved characters navigate this world of intrigue.
Till next time!
