Many Places to See

Stories have forever imprinted us with memorable experiences all based upon the amazing places they take us. With that said, the Immortal Universe I create is no different. Throughout my stories, I travel far and wide across and around the world to many different places. The Immortal Series takes place in several different locales, and the ambiance of each place is different. Traveling is a big part of the Immortal Universe and I loved writing about the places I’ve visited as well as researching the places I haven’t yet been to.

As an Urban Fantasy author, it is my firm belief that setting is indeed a character all its own in the story. Therefore the setting must really stand out so the reader can be immersed. This means the setting must take on a life of its own! And sometimes…that can be quite the journey for the author!

The Kind of World the Immortal Series is Set in

For my series, I wanted my readers to have both a worldly and otherworldly experience. Aside from the wanderlust that seizes the characters, there are also realms beyond that take the settings in the Immortal Universe to the next level. The kind of world I wanted to build was one of mystery, intrigue, and secrecy. I loved the idea of secrecy surrounding my beloved supernatural beings. The Lorns are immortal and hiding from the world when we first step foot into the Immortal Universe. However things do not exactly stay that way.

I’ve often been asked if my world is set in our world or an alternate one like it. I’d have to go with alternate. This is an Urban Fantasy series and it does take place not in one but several different popular cities, as we trek through the story. It is very much what our would would be like IF it had supernatural beings running amok under us humans’ noses! This is where the mystery and intrigue come into play with Lorns in hiding, witches sworn to secrecy, otherworldly apparitions skulking about. The Immortal Universe if full of things that go bump in the night and pull you into a deeper, darker place. And at the heart of it is the setting.

Favorite Frightful Places

So what and where are my favorite places in the Immortal Universe that I would call the most mysterious and intriguing? I’ve got a couple!

THE HIVE
This series of interwoven caves within the mountains of the Black Forest, Germany serves as the base of operations for the Diluvian Order, the ruthless enemy faction of Lorns after Ethan’s rare power that had awakened upon becoming an immortal. There are numerous cave entrances, dark and dank tunnels winding into oblivion, and terrors at its core that would shake even the most hardened to their bones. Deep within these caverns lies the heart of The Order’s dark dealings.

THE COTTAGE
Located just outside the Black Forest, Germany, this unsuspecting cottage is the clandestine home to brother and sister Lorns Pamela and Garrett, who lead the Lorn Germany Circle. Beneath the cottage is a large, cavernous space that serves as their hideout as they make plans to fight off the forces of the Order. This place also later becomes a spot where Ethan’s sister Kate communes with her lost love Roger from the Outer Realm of the dead.

GRIMOIRE’S CASTLE

Home to an elusive villain we see later on in the series, he is host to a most grand and austere castle off the basalt cliffs of Northern Ireland. Here many a wicked thing takes place and this setting is opulent yet horrifying. We experience the sweeping landscape along the coast as the backdrop to this remote place of pure darkness.

All the Stomping Grounds

From Southern U.S. to Germany, Italy to Portugal, Scotland to Jamaica, Ireland, to Scandinavia, and more, throughout the Immortal Series, many places are visited and serve as part of the histories of my characters (something I will touch on in a later episode). We see the sights, we get the feels, we experience the wonders and it all makes for a good story! I hope you love the journey as much as I did writing it!
