Episode 1:
Hey Fantasy Lovers! Welcome to my World Building and Lore Series, where I’ll post several episodes about all the interesting things that make up a good dark fantasy story–LORE! This is where I will blog about all things relating to the origins of the supernatural system in the world of my immortal series universe!
Different is Good
There are so many things about the Immortal Series that sets it apart from other supernatural stories! There are so many fallen angel stories out there (and we love them don’t we?) but when I sat down to begin the Immortal Series and I was staring at my computer screen, thinking “how do I want to start this whole thing,” I asked myself, what would be different from fallen angels? What would be unique and intriguing.
What if I came up with say, a descendant of the fallen angels…but not just like a half human or sired spawn that borderline an angels and demon type story. No, I wanted something more suited to my crazy brain that craved a new kind of supernatural creature in a dark fantasy setting. Then the idea of the Lorn came to me! Yay for wild fantasy fiction!
Witches, Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies! Make way for the Lorn!
The Lorns are descendants of the Fallen but not just descendants. Per apocryphal biblical lore, there were creatures known as the “Nephilim” known to be born from the Angels (sons of God) and humans (daughters of man) and in their union, they created beastly beings known as the Nephilim who wandered the earth and left carnage and wrath in their wake. Bloodshed, debauchery, sin…all these things marked the path of these beings. Some even believe these creatures were huge in stature, so much that many call them the Titans of old! In the end, the great deluge as per biblical lore, occurred and the world was flooded, washing these creatures and all the sin-filled carnage from the earth. You might know this as the “Great Flood.”

A Quick Vocab Lesson!
So what’s apocryphal?
/əˈpäkrəf(ə)l/
It represents works that are not accepted in the cannon (accepted as authentic and true to the history) of lore or mythology. In the case of biblical works, many stories were stripped from the cannon, seen as unacceptable and doubtful. Could the Nephilim really exist? Did the angels really fall by siring children with human women? This was called to question. And that’s where I stepped in to have fun with the idea! And it was all for the fantasy reader in me and fantasy readers everywhere. We deserve crazy interesting stories.
So lots of biblical lore is involved in my books, but I specifically pull from what is not considered cannon as I said before. I pull from the “forbidden” stuff that is super interesting! Lots of studying went into my preparation for writing this series, especially as I built the world in the first novel.
A New History Made Real: The Alternate Universe
With my story, I took it a step further and said, “well, what if these Nephilim had descendants themselves? Then what?”
After the flood cleansed the earth, I decided to make the Nephilim’s essence become disembodied spirits drifting about. I mean they were half divine as children of the angels, no? So with this idea, I decided that once the world was inhabited by humans again, why not have these spirits possess them and thus the first Lorns were born! Immortal beings of ancient lineage, yet tied to the mortal plane as a human coil of existence resided within them. Once the bodies were possessed, they became immortal and became the first of their kind. Pretty cool, huh?
So what was next then? Putting it all together of course! And thus the story of the Lorns in my immortal universe was the start. And the very start of a much bigger dark fantasy saga to come as I introduce even more fantastical elements and interesting story points, like the witches and their unique magical system, the angels themselves, dark shadow-born entities and much more! But it all started with one book and one idea. Immortal Descent. The mad descent into the unknown as well as the descent of our starting main character Ethan and his mysterious yet powerful lineage. Double meaning in that title! All my books have unique meanings behind the title (something I’ll chat about later!)

Secrets are Fun!
So all said and done, this was the advent of my idea to create something new, something different, something fantasy readers could sink their teeth into and really enjoy the darkness of it, the psychological secrets of it, the urban fantasy of it. And I LOVE urban fantasy because in my universe, things happen as they would in our actual world but it’s just beneath the humans’ noses, the Lorns existing in secret. So it’s like our world with supernatural bits sprinkled in beneath the surface.
In the end, I hope you enjoy the beginning of this evolving series. I just finished book 4 and I can tell you this much–there will be a book 5 and 6 and 7 and more. Just wait and see what other crazy things I can stir up and throw my beloved characters into.
Lore is Life
So, lore matters. And it’s interesting since my book isn’t spiritual by any means but it pulls from lore different say from common, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Nordic or other known but awesome lore. I invite you to enjoy what the Immortal Series has in store. Next time, I’ll be talking about magic! Yay! The world of spells and incantations, rituals and rites, mystery and mayhem. Get ready, because the wild ride has just begun!
What will we think of next? The sky’s the limit! To start the experience if you haven’t already you can check out the first book that started it all! Immortal Descent, book 1 is on Amazon today in Ebook and Paperback. Dive into the unknown with me!
Till next time!
